Larry Kaawa
Larry “Bun” Kaawa, 60, of Naalehu, died Sept. 5, 2016, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Aug. 14, 1956, Ka’u, he worked for the County of Hawaii in the maintenance department and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints in Naalehu.
Friends may call on Oct. 8, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints in Naalehu for a 10 a.m. service. Casual attire and flowers are welcomed; burial at the Naalehu Community County Cemetery at noon.
He is survived by companion, Laura Matsueda of Ka’u; daughters, Leona (Thomas Mochizuki) Matsueda of Volcano, Lori (John Kaluau, IV) Kaawa, Lacy (Edward) Santos and Lynell (Ryan Kamimura) Kaawa, Leanne Kaawa of Hilo; 12 grandchildren; brothers, Dave (Ta My) Kaawa of South Point, and Eric (Kimberly) Kaawa of Naalehu; sisters, Sarah (Matthew) Lazar of Waipahu, Doris Silva and Gail Olsen of Hilo, Verna Kaawa of Waiohinu, Evon Kaawa of Naalehu, Stephanie (Karl) Mento of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; aunt, Evangeline (Teddy) Lacaden of Pearl City; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Satsuki Shiraishi
Satsuki Shiraishi, 87, of Hilo, died Aug. 27, 2016, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born May 30, 1929, in Wailuku, Maui, she a retired cafeteria helper from Keaukaha Elementary School, co-owner of the former Hilo Blueprint and Supply, and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.
Friends may call at 10 a.m. Oct. 8 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no monetary gifts.
She is survived by Wayne (Valarie) Shiraishi of Kohala; daughter, Grace (Joel) Hisanaga of Hilo; sister, Kasumi Tawara of San Francisco, Calif.; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Lolito Escobar
Lolito “Nelson” Ramos Escobar, 59, of Pahala, died Sept. 5, 2016, at Hospice of Kona’s Nakamaru Hale.
Born in Candon City, Ilocos Sur, Philippines on Nov. 28, 1956, he was a supervisor for Mac Nut Farms of Hawaii and a driver for the former Ka’u Agri Business.
Friends may call at 1 p.m. Oct. 8 at the River of Life Assembly of God Church at 96-2945 Paauau St. in Pahala for a 2 p.m. funeral service. Burial will follow at the Naalehu County Cemetery. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome.

H. Koenig
H. George Koenig, 70, of Hilo, died Oct. 2, 2016, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. He was born in Hackensack, New Jersey, on Oct. 25, 1945, and was the retired Superintendent of the NASA Infrared Telescope on Mauna Kea, the co-founder of Business Automation Inc., art director for McCall’s Magazine, member of the Hilo United Methodist Men’s Group, and former Peace Corps volunteer in Tonga.
Friends may call at 9 a.m. Oct. 8 at Hilo United Methodist Church for a 10:30 a.m. Celebration of Life. Urn burial at Homelani Memorial Park at 2 p.m. Family requests casual attire.
He is survived by spouse, Tupou Koenig of Hilo; son, Loni Paul Koenig of Los Angeles, Calif.; brother, Ronald Koenig of Fort Lee, New Jersey.

Shuanmin Wang
Shuanmin Wang, 81, of Hilo, died Sept. 10, 2016, at his residence. Born in ShaanXi, China, he was a retired surgeon in China.
Friends may call 3-4 p.m. Oct. 9 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 4 p.m. service. Burial will take place at 9 a.m. Oct. 10 at Homelani Memorial Park. The family requests casual attire.
She is survived by wife, Cailing Cai of Hilo; daughters, Li (Chuan Chen) Wang of China, Ning (Dr. Brian Sugai) Wang-Sugai of Hilo, Wen (Hui Zheng) Wang of China; son, Xinnong (Aihua Jin) Yang of China; three grandchildren.

Alice Siemons
Alice “Dolly” “Nana” Dolores Siemons, 83, of Hilo, died Sept. 28, 2016, at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born on Oahu, she was homemaker, but spent years teaching home-décor-related skills to others, even teaching quilting for the County of Hawaii also spent years volunteering at a variety of events and was a long-time blood donor.
A private service will be held for family and friends here in Hilo and she will be interred with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
She is survived by daughters, Marnie Honeycutt of Hilo, Elizabeth Funke of Ashburn, Va.; brother, Dennis Tamosan of Hilo; and five grandchildren.
